| Follow the instruction in the Linksys instruction manual to log into your Wireless router. You should have your PC's IP address set to the same subnet as your router (typically 192.168.1.x if the router is set to factory defaults). You should have an IP address in your PC like 192.168.1.30 if you router is set to 192.168.1.1 |
| |
- Once logged into your router, you should be on the Setup/Basic Setup page as shown:

|
- Set your internet connection type to Static IP
|
- Set you Internet IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS servers 1 and 2 as described in your Planet802 Start-up Pack

- Once entered, click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the setup page
|
|
- Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the page. Ensure you have wireless enabled, that the SSID (your network name) is set to something you can remember, and most importantly, ensure your channel selection is on a channel other than the local broadband network.. typically channel 6 for most networks, but channel 1 and 11 could also be available. Check withPlanet802 if you are uncertain, or if we did not provide you with an useable channel
- Enable SSID Broadcast
|
- Click the Wireless Security tab at the top
- From the dropdown, select WEP
- Default Key should be 1, enter a key in slot 1. The key should be 10 Hexadecimal characters (A-E and 0-9). Example: ACE8008BD2. Ensure you write this down as you will not be able to connect again without it !
- Click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page when complete.
- note: if you have been connected to your router via wireless link, at this stage you will need to enter your wep key onto the wireless card on your laptop or desktop in order to re-connect to your router.
|
| |
- Click the Wireless Access item at the top of the page
- Select the radio button Restrict Access
- Enter your Laptops / Desktops MAC (Physical) address in this page. Enter the MAC address for any other PC's you may want to connect. If don't know how to get your MAC address, you can click the button at the bottom of the page which will show you the MAC addresses of any PC's that have connected to the wireless network. for this reason, it might be best to ensure that all your PC's have connected at least once within the last hour before enabling MAC filtering.
- Click Save Settings at the bottom of the page
|
| |
|
You should now go back to the main Setup page and complet the local network address section.
|
Enter the following parameters or as described in your Planet802 Documentation: |
- Local IP Address: 10.4.1.1
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Local DHCP server: enabled
- Start IP Address: 100
- Number of Addresses: 5 (note, if you have less than 5 PC's you can shorten this range by lowering the number to the number of PC's you will want to allow to connect.
- Client Lease Term: 10080
- WINS: 0.0.0.0

|
At this point, you can now connect to your router via the wireless network. Open your wireless network driver and scan for wireless networks. Each Wireless adapter will be different, so consult your documentation regarding specific brand names and screens you migh encounter when connecting
You will need to find the network with the SSID you entered above, and you will need to enter the WEP code.
You will also need to set you IP address on your desktop / laptop to DHCP or "Obtain IP address automatically". If you are unsure how to do this, consult the document entitled How to set up your IP address. |
| |
- Finally, you should log back into your router through the web browser using the newly setup Network IP address (http://10.4.1.1) and click on the security tab, and go to the Filter section
|
- In the Filter IP address section, you should enter a range of addresses in slots 1 and 2. In slot 1, enter start address of 2 and end address of 99
- In slot 2, you should enter a start address of 106 and an end address of 255.
- This will ensure that only IP addresses you have assigned by DHCP (100 - 105) have access to your network.
- If you have less than 5 PC's, you can shorten the range to the number of PC's you have.
